About
Logic is traditionally taken to be the study of valid inference, the process by which we draw conclusions based on the information we already have. In recent years, logical techniques are also being used to study the general dynamics of observation, knowledge update, belief revision, preference change, conversation, games, and other longer-term goal-driven processes of strategic interaction. This multi-agent situated perspective on rational agency leads to new questions in pure logic itself, as well as new interfaces with surrounding disciplines, such as philosophy, mathematics, linguistics, computer science, game theory, and cognitive science. But at the same time, this new interactive view of logic is also a return to the historical origins of the discipline in patterns of argumentation, discussion, and debate.
The Group on Logic and Rational Interaction welcomes you to this website, in which you can find the relevant information about our activities and projects, publications, people, and events worldwide. You can also find short blurbs and discussions about our current research themes. All this can be found by browsing the various categories on the left, or by looking at the “Recent Entries” widget.
We want to provide a comprehensive database to serve our fast-growing research community, and so we encourage everyone interested to add comments to the various entries and email us with any suggestions. This way, we hope that we can make this website the main reference of the area.
